Devotion - Wednesday April 22 - Fighting Worry and Uncertainty Part 2

Text: So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. - Colossians 3:1-2 (CSB)

Devotion: In part 1 of “Fighting Worry and Uncertainty”, we looked at Matthew chapter 6 and saw that our “heavenly Father” takes care of the birds and the wildflowers in the field so how much more does he care for us, his children? Today, we will look at what it means to set our minds on things above.
In my life, I have found that the times I worry have less to do with the events of the situation and more to do with my perspective on those events. Colossians 3 tells us to set our minds on things above, where Jesus is seated. Hebrews 12:2 tells us to “fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.”  When we focus on our current situation or current circumstances, we begin to worry, and we begin to sink like Peter walking on the water (Matthew 14:29). But when our eyes and thoughts are on Jesus, we get a glimpse of an eternal perspective. A perspective from an all knowing, loving, wise, and kind Father.
Answer the questions below and tune in Friday for part 3.

Questions:
  1. What current situation in your life are you worried about?
  2. How does setting your mind on things above and fixing your eyes on Jesus give you a different perspective on your situation?
  3. What does Phil 4:8 tell us we should be thinking about?
